Isabelle´s vintage guide - Östermalm
These days it’s hard to avoid shopping second-hand compared to ten years ago when little shops of vintage were hard to come by. The vintage shops are popping up on every other street corner regardless which part of Stockholm you´re in.
Filled with everything from grandmother’s old wedding dress to the perfect Yves Saint Laurent suite from the 80’s, shopping vintage has become a reliable source for more and more. Not only does it make economic sense to buy vintage but it’s also more adventurous and sometimes even more fun than regular retail. Below is a short review of my three favorite shops in the Östermalm area.
Titta in - First & Second Hand, Storgatan 22
This small hole in the wall caters mostly to elder business women but hidden between the tailored suites are some great jewels. Brands like Burberry, Chloé and BCBG Max Azaria to mention a few are common finds. This is the ideal place to go if you are looking for a chiffon-dress to wear to a wedding reception or that perfect Burberry trench coat for just over 1000 SEK.
Saker & Ting Vintage, Sturegatan 28
You are brought back in time to the mid 20th century as soon as you walk through the door. This little shop of just 11 Square meters (claustrophobic? Forget it!) is filled with dresses with every imaginable colour and type of material from the ceiling down. Here you can find corsets from the 30’s, costume jewellery and every possible type of hat your head could ever dream of wearing. The owner calls herself, Stockholm’s grand old lady of second hand. Looking for a prom dress? This is the ultimate place to visit and the only one if you want to wear an unique creation.
Marielle Second Hand, Erik Dahlbegrsgatan 23
This little goldmine has been in the family since 1982. Petra, the owner took over after her mother and has customers ranging from the age of 17 to 104, which isn't hard to believe. Petra knows exactly what will look superb on you as soon as you walk through the door. She is the perfect example of the type of woman who takes care of her clients. The place is full of the most beautiful creations, from vintage furs to the perfect cocktail dress from the 1940's. The quality of clothes and accessories sold in this little haven is breathtaking, and the low pricing makes it hard for me not want to keep Marielle my own little secret. This is the second hand shop to go to if you are looking for that YSL suit from the 1980's.
